Novembre Numérique — Digital Culture Workshop

2021

#physical-computing#interactive-installation#arduino

Workshop at Institut Français d’Izmir as part of the “Novembre Numérique” program and the “Escape” exhibition, exploring digital culture, screen-based art, and interactive technologies.

The workshop, organized by the French Institute in Turkey in Izmir, will be led by Benjamin Gaulon, in collaboration with Daniele Savasta from @xLab – Yaşar University.

Participate in the creation of a collective installation made from electronic waste (e-waste) with artist and teacher Benjamin Gaulon, and discover or develop your skills in hardware hacking and circuit bending.

This workshop invites participants to collectively create a sculpture that blends analog and digital, video and sound signals, rhythm and repetition, electronics and mechanics, and much more.

Reverse engineering old electronic devices is a fantastic way to understand these tools and their evolution. The Refunct Media installation is therefore an exploration and appropriation of the history of technologies through their materiality.

The workshop also includes the use of Arduino, relays, motors, and other sensors to facilitate the control or interconnection of devices.

Finally, this workshop is open to everyone but is particularly aimed at artists, hackers, and makers who wish to explore, among other things, 8-bit, circuit bending, microcontrollers, glitch art, noise, dirty new media, and electronic sculpture.

The artwork created by the participants during the workshop will be exhibited at the French Institute of Turkey in Izmir. The workshop will be conducted in French and English.

Lead by Benjamin Gaulon.
